Though the term has historical roots, it is used metaphorically in today\u2019s language.<br>&#8211; <em>&#8222;The media launched a witch hunt against the celebrity, but none of the accusations were true.&#8221;<\/em><br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>To give up the ghost<\/strong><br>This means to give up, stop doing something, or lose hope. When referring to things, it means to break down or stop working.<br>&#8211; &#8222;<em>After trying to fix the old car for hours, it finally gave up the ghost.<\/em>&#8222;<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>To bleed someone dry<\/strong><br>This idiom means to exploit someone to the limit, financially ruin them, or drain their resources.<br>&#8211; &#8222;<em>The constant maintenance costs of the house are bleeding us dry.<\/em>&#8222;<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>To have a thick skull<\/strong><br>Used to describe someone who is stubborn or slow to understand, as if information just doesn\u2019t &#8222;sink in.&#8221;<br>&#8222;<em>I&#8217;ve explained it to him so many times, but he just has a thick skull<\/em>.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Learning English doesn\u2019t have to be scary, and learning new idioms is a fantastic way to enrich your vocabulary!
